Hot and hearty breakfasts are a great start on a winter’s day! They help us feel full, reducing the desire to munch empty-calorie snacks at work. They help keep our digestive system humming with heart-healthy fibre.

Our “secret recipe” 7-Grain Cereal features organic barley, wheat, rye, triticale, oats, flaxseed and millet for healthy, hearty whole grain goodness that’s rich in fibre, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and essential fatty acids.

It cooks in minutes and satisfies all day long! In this version, we’re including some “mix-ins” that make this a true “Power Breakfast”.

Extra Virgin Raw Organic Coconut Oil: Rich in lauric acid to benefit brain health, Omega-3s and other essential fatty acids. One of the most versatile oils for internal and external wellness!

Superfood Seed Trio: Tiny nutritional powerhouses that deliver phytonutrients, vegan protein, fibre, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. Simply grind them together in a coffee grinder, and store in a small container in the refrigerator. Try a blend of organic hulled hemp, organic flax and chia seeds, or any combination of them.

Pure Organic Maple Syrup: Organic maple syrup contains minerals such as zinc and manganese. Or use your favourite non-caloric organic sweetener.

Pure cinnamon: This beloved spice contains a wealth of beneficial compounds, including ones helpful in controlling blood sugar and compounds being studied for their ability to help prevent alzheimer’s disease.

Fresh or Frozen Berries: Berries not only taste sweet, they have sweet health benefits. The compounds that give berries their color are powerful phytonutrients.

GRAINWORKS 7-GRAIN POWER BREAKFAST

Makes 3 – 4 servings

1-cup 7-Grain Cereal 250 ml

3 cups Water 750 ml

3 tbsp. Organic coconut oil 45 ml

2 tbsp. Superfood Seeds 30 ml

1/2 cup Fresh or Frozen Berries* 120 ml

2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon 10 ml

2 tsp. Maple Syrup (optional) 10 ml

Salt (to taste)

*Mashed banana or other fruits can be substituted for the berries.

Bring water to boil, add cereal, and boil for a moment. Cover, lower heat and cook on low heat for approximately 3 minutes or until water is absorbed, stirring once or twice. At end of cooking spoon in coconut oil and simmer until it melts into the cereal, stirring to blend well.

Add the berries when you wish, either after or during the cooking process if you want softer berries (note: add after the cereal has been brought to a boil). Remove from heat, add superfood seeds, cinnamon and sweetener if adding sweetener. Add salt if desired to taste.
