What does organic mean?

“Certified Organic” means the item has been grown according to strict uniform standards that are verified by 3rd party organizations. Certification includes inspections of farm fields and processing facilities, detailed record keeping, and periodic testing of soil and water to ensure that growers and handlers are meeting the standards which have been set.

Organic agriculture is a beacon of hope in what can seem like a sea of discouraging news. Organic farmers work with nature to leave Canada’s rich farmland even better for the next generation. And we work to bring Canadians food that is as deliciously good to eat as it is good for you!

Why organic?

Our organic crops are produced as nature intended, without chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides, and grown in rich soil that is continually renewed and built up by natural means.

As organic farmers with a history of over 100 years of sustainable family farming the Canadian Prairie, we know that healthy, organically enhanced soil is the basis for growing nutritious food that is better for you.

For us, eating organic food means making better choices about what you put in our body. We believe clean, organically grown whole foods are healthier, and more flavorful. Plus they are much less harmful to the envioronment.


Non-GMO Foods:

GMOs, or, “Genetically Modified Organisms” are living organisms created through gene splicing, a biotechnology that combines the DNA from different species for specific and desired traits in the original species. This has the potential to create unstable combinations of genetics that do not occur in nature. Though there is lots of ongoing research on the impact these can have on those who ingest genetically modified foods, many consumers choose to select foods that they are know are in their original, natural form.

One of the main criteria of organic certification is that gmo seeds are not allowed. Our organic grains are grown from open-pollinated seed stock which has been selectively bred through traditional breeding techniques for desired characteristics.
